- Ben leads us into a deeper understanding of the radical command of Christ to ‘drink my blood’ to the people of the day. How crazy that would have sounded to a group of people that had formerly been forbidden to ever drink the blood of animals are now commanded to symbolically drink his. Take a listen!

- INSIDE-OUT LIVING – “We want a king!” How God chooses and uses people.
“Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” This is what God told the prophet Samuel when Samuel was seeking to identify who would be the next king of Israel. Saul, whom the Lord had rejected, sure looked like a king. He was almost a foot taller than any of the other men in Israel. Pretty impressive looking.
Our tendency is to focus on the externals, but God looks much deeper. He is interested in who we are and how we are under the surface.
In this story of the choice and anointing of David as King of Israel, we see that God’s vision of us, both of our PRESENT REALITY and of our FUTURE POTENTIAL, is the truest thing about us. As we “acquire His eyes and His heart” through a real relationship with Jesus Christ, and as we follow Him and allow Him to progressively change us, we truly begin to live and to fulfill His awesome calling on our lives. We begin to look at ourselves and at others the way God does; potential or real “kings and queens,” co-regents of the King of Kings, beloved children of God….., world changers!

- That is why God had the story of Ruth in the Canon of Scripture, to remind us that we have a God that plans. We have a God that is not absent from the picture, planning not only situations in our lives but his ultimate purposes for the world. Martin Luther King knew that, didn’t he? That was his hope, his eyes were focused on the Promise and Providence in his harsh situation. We need to be reminded that even over thousands of years, over historical details too numerous for us to fathom, that God is hovering, and moving in time to orchestrate his great plan of establishing his kingdom in fullness. This story actually, in a round about way, pushes us to think about the end times when Christ will reign over all the heavens and the earth in full glory! Remember, the Scriptures start in a garden but end in a city.Christ is establishing his Kingdom in the world and the best is yet to come. However, there is purpose to our suffering, Christ has honored you and I with the burden of being his hands and feet, seeking justice, mercy, and loving people into this Kingdom.
