A powerful and timely new theatrical and musical genre, Luther Oratorio will appear at Church of the Saviour after having played to audiences of more than 500,000 throughout Europe. Luther is a courtroom drama taking place on two days in April of 1521, when Martin Luther was on trial for heresy due to his posting of the 95 Theses in October of 1517. The German government commissioned this work to tour Europe for the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017, combining the best elements of historical and modern music and theatrical styles. The work merges a mega-choir, rock band, soloists, orchestra and multimedia into a highly entertaining and compelling exploration of how the issues of social, economic, educational and religious justice over the past 500 years are current and vital to this day.
